Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Extra Security for Your Account

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your SmartSaver account. When you log in with your email address and password, you'll also be asked to enter a 6-digit code generated by a separate authenticator app on your phone such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

Because the code is created on your own device and changes every 30 seconds, only you have access to it and this helps us confirm that it's you who is log in and keeps your account safe.

How to set up Two-Factor Authentication

To get started, you'll need to download an authenticator app on your phone. We recommend Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, as they're widely used, free, and easy to set up.

Once you've downloaded an app, log in to your SmartSaver account and follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Profile and select Security.

  2. Click Enable next to two-factor authentication.

  3. A pop-up will appear with a QR code. Open your authenticator app and use it to scan the code, following the on-screen instructions.

  4. Once Monefit SmartSaver has been added to your authenticator app, enter the 6-digit code shown in the app into the box next to the QR code to complete setup.

Once setup is complete, we recommend logging out and signing back in to try the new process. You'll start with your usual login details, and then be asked to enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app in the box shown below. This way, you'll be familiar with the steps and can log in with confidence next time

What are "One-Time Codes"?

One-time codes are a set backup codes that let you access your SmartSaver account if you ever lose access to your authenticator app, for example if your phone is lost or replaced. We strongly recommend generating your one-time codes as soon as you've enabled two-factor authentication.

Please note that the codes can only be generated once, so be sure to write them down or save them somewhere safe and secure before closing the page.

If you lose your one-time codes, or the page closes before you've had a chance to save them, please contact our customer support team as soon as possible and they'll be happy to help.

Entered your two-factor authentication code incorrectly too many times?

If you enter an incorrect 2FA code too many times, or enter a code after it has expired and a new one has been generated, your SmartSaver account may be temporarily blocked for your security. If this happens, please contact our customer support team and they'll be happy to help you unblock your account.
